Old meets new in a joint concert by the Orchestra La Scintilla and the Collegium Novum Zürich at Zurich Opera House. La Scintilla performs music from Rameau's operas Zaïs and Les Boréades on period instruments, whereas the CNZ interprets Gérard Grisey's Sortie vers la lumière du jour. The two orchestras will come together for the world premiere of Milica Djordjević's new work Ušća.
"This piece explores the interaction of elemental forces – light, energy, reflection – through
abstract musical forms", says the composer. "It’s a meditation on shifting textures, resonances, and the interplay of two distinct sonic worlds: the baroque orchestra, and the contemporary chamber orchestra. It would unfold in a dialogue between stasis and transformation, where sonic identities reflect, distort, and dissolve into each other. By focusing on texture, resonance, and the distortion of sonic identities, the piece invites listeners to experience a journey through shifting sonic spaces, where clarity, chaos, and dissolution flow seamlessly into one another."
