In February, two very different albums with orchestra and big band were released, both recorded under the musical direction of Titus Engel: The orchestra and big band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin celebrate Duke Ellington, and the Basel Sinfonietta and the NDR Bigband present a new work by Michael Wertmüller.

Recorded live at Musikfest Berlin 2024, A Celebration for the "Duke" presents some of the great Duke Ellington hits from the big band era as well as later works that identify him as a representative of a "third stream" between the Western European avant-garde, jazz and classical-romantic tradition. The CD also features the world premiere of a tribute composition by Manfred Honetschläger. Saxophonist Tony Lakatos and singer Fola Dada performed together with the big band and orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the direction of Titus Engel at the Musikfest Berlin.
