The young conductor will lead numerous productions at the Leipzig Opera as its principal guest conductor for an initial two seasons. During the 2026/27 season, he will be appearing in Leipzig with La Traviata, La Bohème and Carmen, as well as a New Year’s Eve gala and the new production O Fortuna, which combines Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci with Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
Friedrich Praetorius has been working at Leipzig Opera on several occasions – having served as an assistant and répétiteur at the theatre, he conducted Hansel and Gretel during the current season.
Born in Lutherstadt Wittenberg in 1996, the conductor grew up in Leipzig from the age of nine and received his early musical training in Leipzig's famous Thomanerchor (St Thomas Choir).
