"Andrés Segovia has anchored the guitar in the concert hall. Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Villa-Lobos, Mompou, and many other composers wrote guitar concertos and solo works for him. Segovia was also the first classical guitarist to make transcriptions from the Baroque period. He laid the groundwork," explains Carlotta Dalia. In recent years, she has often been heard in recital on the instrument that the masterful guitarist himself played for several years. The guitar, built by Hermann Hauser I in 1939, was made available to her by the Adopt a Musician Foundation. There are only two examples of the instrument left in the world - the other guitar of the same design is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York,
‘It is a great responsibility and also a great emotion,’ says the guitarist, who considers the study of historical instruments to be essential. "For me, the first guitar with an important previous owner was Ida Presti's, which I used to record her compositions," she explains. It seems only logical that she should now devote herself to Andres Segovia for her debut on the Berlin Classics label. In addition to Segovia's own works, she has selected compositions by his contemporaries Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Carlos Pedrell, Hans Haug, Jacques Ibert, Federico Moreno Torroba and Joaquin Turina for the album, as well as Enrico Melozzi's work Re-Birds da un frammento di J. P. Rameau, composed especially for her.
The album was on 28 March 2025 and is Carlotta Dalia's first recording for the label Berlin Classics, which has just signed the Italian artist. The pre-released singles and accompanying videos have already achieved outstanding click figures.
