When he wields the baton he does so with the authority of a consummate professional and the sensitivity of a great performer. Il Secolo XIX
28-year-old conductor Gaetano Lo Coco seamlessly combines musical excellence with intercultural sensitivity. In a remarkably short period of time, he has attracted international attention across both the operatic and symphonic repertoire. Raised in Rome and London with family roots in Italy, Spain and Argentina, he is fluent in six languages. He studied literature at Oxford University and orchestral conducting in Vienna.
Gaetano Lo Coco broke onto the international scene conducting Nabucco to great acclaim with Plácido Domingo, the Slovenian Philharmonic and Wiener Staatsopernchor in Graz. The same year, he made debuts with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Musikverein, Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Simfònica de les Illes Balears, and the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra Katowice.
Over the course of 2025, Gaetano Lo Coco is scheduled to conduct Beethoven's 7th Symphony with the Orchestra Filarmonica Giuseppe Verdi di Salerno, Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony with the Orchestre de l'Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, Bizet's Carmen in Concepción, Chile, as well as the Gala Concert of the Duet Endowment Trust with Golda Schultz, Jacques Imbrailo and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Most recently he has led successful performances at the Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla (Nabucco), the Opéra national de Lorraine (Der Silbersee), the Opera Vlaanderen (Petrushka/The Seven Deadly Sins) and at the theatres in Salerno, Trieste, Piacenza and Ferrara. With pianistic finesse and an illuminating view on musical and historical questions, he regularly gives concert introductions from the piano, most recently at the Círculo del Liceu Barcelona for La Traviata.
As founder and musical director of the Rossini 2016 Young Artists' Opera Festival in London, he gained acclaim early on in his career. He has since been involved in over thirty opera productions, as the assistant of Josep Pons, Alejo Pérez and Francesco Ivan Ciampa, as well as conducting his own productions (L'elisir d'amore, L'Italiana in Algeri, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Nabucco, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Otello, Curlew River). Gaetano Lo Coco has worked with world-class singers including Leo Nucci, Saioa Hernández, Erwin Schrott and María José Siri.
