The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra will go on tour with Eliahu Inbal in December 2026 to celebrate his 90th birthday.
At the heart of the programme is Mahler's 4th Symphony with the outstanding soprano Sarah Wegener, who has just made her role debut as Sieglinde in Kent Nagano's Ring cycle. Depending on demand, Bartók's 3rd Piano Concerto could also be considered in the first half.

In Inbal, one can trace the clear traits of role models and teachers such as Franco Ferrara and Sergiu Celibidache; he possesses the strength for tranquillity and the sense to create unbridled passion and dramatic effect. (Die Welt)
Since winning first prize in the Cantelli Conducting Competition at the age of 26, Eliahu Inbal has enjoyed a career of international renown, conducting leading orchestras around the world. Over the years, he has been appointed principal conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony (hr-Sinfonieorchester), Teatro La Fenice in Venice, RAI National Symphony, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Czech Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, who named him conductor laureate in 2014. From 2019 until 2022, Eliahu Inbal served as principal conductor of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and also became its conductor laureate in 2023.
Sarah Wegener sings fabulously; one understands every word, she masters the highly dramatic outbursts just as naturally as the intimate, almost spoken word. […] of unearthly, dreamlike beauty. Süddeutsche Zeitung, Egbert Tholl, 13 November 2022
Antwerp Symphony Orchestra
The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (the royal orchestra of Flanders) is the symphony orchestra of Flanders and Belgium, with the world-renowned Queen Elisabeth Hall as its home base. In collaboration with its honorary conductor Philippe Herreweghe, emeritus conductor Jaap van Zweden, and renowned guest conductors, it performs several concerts yearly in prestigious Belgian and international concert venues.
Thanks to its concert series at the Concertgebouw (Bruges), Muziekcentrum De Bijloke (Ghent), and BOZAR (Brussels), the orchestra occupies a unique position in Flanders. The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra is also proud of its structural international ties, performing concerts in multiple venues in neighbouring countries each season. In addition to this, the orchestra also organises an international tour each year (Spain in 2023 and the Baltics in 2020). In the season of 2024-2025, the orchestra will perform at major venues in Germany and Austria.
Besides its regular concerts, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra continues to develop its extensive range of educational and social projects, with which the orchestra takes children, young adults, and people from diverse backgrounds, on a journey through the world of symphonic sound.
The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra regularly records music for renowned classical labels, focussing primarily on grand symphonic classics, Belgian music, and contemporary classical music.
