The Latvian composer and double bassist Pēteris Vasks composed his second violin concerto Vakara gaismā ("In Evening Light") in 2020, almost 25 years after the first. In both works, the solo violin meets a string orchestra. Antje Weithaas and the Camerata Bern have now released a recording of Vakara gaismā on the CAvi-music label, distributed by Deutsche Grammophon.
As artistic director of the Camerata Bern, Antje Weithaas was responsible for the ensemble's musical profile for almost ten years. From the podium of the concertmaster, she even conducted large-scale works such as Beethoven's symphonies and released recordings of works by Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Beethoven. She continues to perform regularly with the Camerata Bern.
