The Swiss-born conductor will succeed Baldur Brönnimann as director of the Orchestra for Contemporary Music as of the 2023/24 season.
The election of Titus Engel took place at the beginning of December in a democratic vote among the members of the orchestra.
Titus Engel thanked the members of the Basel Sinfonietta for their trust and said about his plans with the orchestra: "I would like to realise projects together with these great musicians that show how gripping and versatile the music of our time is. My aim is to develop special concerts for a broad audience and at the same time to intensify the Basel Sinfonietta's international appeal. I'm also very much looking forward to working closely with the composers and the many institutions in Basel that have a propensity for modern music."
