Friedrich Cerha celebrates his 95th birthday - and we celebrate his life and his work with a collection of portrait articles, current links and concert dates and his video interview for the Stadtjournal wien.at.
Three world premieres are on the programme of the ORF concert on 23 March at the Radiokulturhaus Vienna. The Webern Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Ernst Kovacic, will perform Cerha's Music for Trombone and String Orchestra (soloist: Walter Voglmayr) and the Concerto for String Orchestra alongside the premieres of Otto foglie per trombone solo, the Toccata for Organ solo und the Vokalise for Soprano and 3 Clarinets.
The birthday concert, postponed from 17 February (Friedrich Cerhas actual birthday) to early summer, will take place on 21 June at the Musikverein Vienna, with the Klangforum Wien and the Boulanger Trio, among others. Already on June 10, the concerto for violin and orchestra is on the programme there, interpreted by the RSO Vienna under Gábor Káli and Carolin Widmann on violin.
Finally, the monumental Spiegel cycle can be heard at the Salzburg Festival on 7 August, performed by the RSO Vienna under Ingo Metzmacher.
The ORF will broadcast the documentary So möchte ich auch fliegen können on Feb. 21 in the series Kulturmatinee.
