Conductor Kent Nagano is also the dedicatee of the large-scale work, which is inspired by spiritual traditions centred on the heart as a universal symbol. Alex Nante set texts in Hebrew, Greek, Arabic, Sanskrit, Latin and Persian, among others, to music.
He writes: "The heart is depicted in various traditional texts as the innermost mystery of the human experience. It connects matter with spirit, unites the human being with the cosmic and the divine and is the hope for the unity of everything that seems to be separate."
The Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra under the direction of Kent Nagano will premiere Anahata together with the Audi Youth Choir Academy, soprano Mojca Erdmann, baritone Evan Hughes and organist Olivier Latry. It will be preceded by Brahms' Symphony No. 4 in E minor op. 98.
