Sounding Light is an ode to nature and a rediscovery of how to listen with our senses and our minds. Created during the pandemic, this choreography by Cloud Gate’s artistic director, Tsung-lung Cheng, follows a day filled with sunlight, punctuated by clouds and shadows. Using their voices, breath and percussive bodies, the dancers create a natural soundtrack that evokes, both acoustically and visually, breezy winds, forest animals and flowing water.
Sounding Light is Tsung-lung Cheng’s first major work since he succeeded Lin Hwai-min in 2020. It illustrates Cloud Gate’s groundbreaking approach as well as Tsung-lung Cheng’s artistic vision. The captivating performance sharpens our awareness of the delicate balance between human civilisation and nature.
The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan had already wowed audiences in Ludwigsburg and Bregenz with Sounding Light in the spring of 2026. Following the performances in Berlin from 15 to 17 August, the dance company will be performing its production 13 Tongues in Helsinki at the end of August and in Hellerau at the beginning of September.
