From 18 to 28 June, Titus Engel will conduct Frank Zappa’s opera 200 Motels in Geneva; its Swiss premiere will mark the conclusion of Aviel Cahn’s final season as General Director of the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

From 18 June, Titus Engel will be conducting the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in six performances of Frank Zappa’s opera, which is being staged in a new production by Daniel Kramer. The work will be performed at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, the former machine hall of the historic hydroelectric power station on the Rhône. Joining the orchestra and the choir of the Grand Théâtre de Genève, as well as an illustrious cast of singers, is the Zurich-based trio Steamboat Switzerland, which has been making music for 30 years at the intersection of new music, improvisation, hardcore, jazz and the avant-garde. Joining them is Mike Keneally on guitar, a musician who shared the stage with Frank Zappa on his final tour in 1988.
