From autumn 2024, Ming Tsao will shift the focus of his work and life from Berlin back to the USA, where he will take up a special position: as Birge-Cary Professor of Music at the University at Buffalo, he will hold the composition professorship that was originally endowed for Morton Feldman.
The University of Buffalo has been one of the most important learning centres for contemporary music in the USA for decades and is home to the Center for 21st Century Music, founded in 2006, the internationally renowned Festival June in Buffalo, and a guest artist series with performances, lectures and workshops.
Professor and Chair of Music Eric Huebner is looking forward to working with Ming Tsao and praises his ideas for the development of the composition programme: "We’ve had numerous conversations concerning our shared goals for the program and the ways we hope to position composition as a research and creative pursuit which draws inspiration from the other disciplines represented in our department: performance, musicology and music theory.”
