With immediate effect, the cellist will take over the direction of the renowned chamber music festival, which has existed for over 40 years. He has been associated with the festival for a long time: He has already been a guest at the Traunstein Summer Concerts seven times, which have been without a director after the unexpected death of the previous artistic director Imke von Keisenberg in December 2020.
Mayor Dr. Christian Hümmer expressed his satisfaction with the decision at a press conference on 12 January: "I am very proud to have found the perfect appointment in Maximilian Hornung. He not only has the necessary profound musical knowledge, but also a large network in the world of artists and sponsors. I am sure that he will successfully continue to develop the Traunstein Summer Concerts while maintaining the audience-appreciated family character of the event series."
The chamber music festival, which takes place annually in September, takes equal account of classical, romantic, classical modern, and contemporary music in its programme. As a long-standing media partner, Bayerischer Rundfunk broadcasts the concerts; Deutschlandfunk Kultur also broadcasts concert recordings from Traunstein.
