Following the highly successful staging of his opera Hanjo by choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and a stage design by artist Rirkrit Tiravanija at the Ja, Mai festival in 2013, a musical theatre work by Toshio Hosokawa can be seen there again this year: Like Hanjo, the opera Matsukaze is based on material from Japanese Nô theatre, with a libretto by Hannah Dübgen based on the Nō play of the same name by Zeami.
moreToshio Hosokawa's opera Matsukaze can be seen in Munich as part of the Ja, Mai festival. The new production, staged by Lotte van den Berg and Tobias Staab with a stage design by artist Alicja Kwade, will be performed at the Bayerische Staatsoper from 3 to 11 May.
