Toshio Hosokawa's opera Matsukaze can be seen in Munich as part of the Ja, Mai festival. The new production, staged by Lotte van den Berg and Tobias Staab with a stage design by artist Alicja Kwade, will be performed at the Bayerische Staatsoper from 3 to 11 May.

Following the highly successful staging of his opera Hanjo by choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and a stage design by artist Rirkrit Tiravanija at the Ja, Mai festival in 2013, a musical theatre work by Toshio Hosokawa can be seen there again this year: Like Hanjo, the opera Matsukaze is based on material from Japanese Nô theatre, with a libretto by Hannah Dübgen based on the Nō play of the same name by Zeami.
