Thin Ice is based ‘on the contrast between raw energy and the voice of remorse, conscience or fate,’ says Ondřej Adámek about the four-movement work. Further performances of Thin Ice will follow in the coming weeks in Winterthur and Prague. The composer himself will conduct the Musikkollegium Winterthur on 21 February at the Stadthaus, presented with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, and Jonathan Nott will conduct the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Rudolfinum on 23 February. The London Symphony Orchestra, as co-commissioner, will also perform the work in a future season. Further information about the work
In addition to Thin Ice, the Présences festival will present the French premiere of Ondřej Adámek's Where are You? at the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique on 7 February. Mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, who already performed in the world premiere of the work in Munich in 2020 under the baton of Simon Rattle, will be accompanied in Paris by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Peter Rundel. A recording of the work was released in 2022 together with Follow Me on the BR Klassik label and received the prestigious Italian critics' award Premio Abbiati del Disco. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle will perform the work again in Munich in May and then in Vienna.
