Until 19 May, Alejo Pérez is conducting a new production of Janáček's opera Káťa Kabanová at the Semperoper, staged by Calixto Bieito, which received outstanding reviews after the premiere.

"It doesn't get any better, more gripping and empathetic from the orchestra than in this premiere", the online magazine concerti wrote about the performance, and the magazine Der Opernfreund was also enthusiastic about the premiere on 28 April: "Leos Janáček's pulsating, surging late-romantic music was in the best hands with Alejo Pérez. (...) With stylistic flair, Pérez and the musicians paid attention to the composer's special sound design and explored the details and extremes of the score in an exemplary manner. Under his direction, the Staatskapelle created intimate and warm moments of sound."
