The Armida Quartet is the first chamber music ensemble to become an ambassador for the Orchestras of Change Germany association, which was founded in 2020 as a climate and nature conservation initiative by members of numerous professional orchestras. The association announced the collaboration during the German Climate Day on May 12, which included a musical contribution by the quartet.
In its own charter regarding sustainability, which the ensemble already practices, it states "We, the Armida Quartet, as cultural figures, would like to cultivate the most sparing use of our planet's resources possible and make dealing with the climate crisis an important core idea of our cultural message. As traveling musicians dedicated to the artistic achievements of humanity in the field of chamber music, we would like to exercise our responsibility towards the major issues of climate change to the best of our ability, align our actions accordingly, and publicly commit to these actions and attitudes."
In addition to adhering to this charter and to connecting and sharing the issue of climate responsibility in the classical music business, the Armida Quartet is committed to performing at least one climate concert per season. It will start with the benefit concert for the project Ein Wald für Bach (A Forest for Bach) at the Bachfest Leipzig on June 18, 2022. Further musical activities on the topic are planned, as well as the examination of the climate compatibility of other areas of artistic work (e.g. CD production, festivals and touring). These will be reoriented in terms of their sustainability content, e.g. through cooperation with the Green Touring Network.
