The piano trio HYPERTOPIA UNDONE, commissioned by Kuhmo Chamber Music with the support of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation, will be premiered on 18 July, performed by Trio Gaspard.
On 16 July, Hanna Hujanen (clarinet) and Anna Kuvaja (piano) will play Josefine Opsahl's duo composition Leiturgia, written in 2023. On 21 July, Josefine Opsahl herself will perform her composition Tide for solo cello.
Orbiting Jewels (Hymn for Peace), part of her large-scale chamber music work Maniai premiered in 2024, will come to the stage on 24 July with Hanna Hujanen (clarinet), Tami Pohjola (violin), Senja Rummukainen (cello) and Matilda Kärkkäinen (piano). "Maniai means 'madness', and the piece proposes norm-breaking and madness as a way to balance the human mind and body," says the composer. "As a counterpoint to the culture of perfection prevalent in our time, which leads to conformity, brutal censorship, silent consent and obedience, MANIAI unfolds as a ritual that allows and encourages participants to express and unleash their frenzy or mania in the context of a chamber concert."
Kuhmo Chamber Music is the largest chamber music festival in Finland and one of the most important music festivals in the Nordic countries. It was founded in 1970 and has been held since 2021 under the artistic direction of Minna Pensola and Antti Tikkanen.
