Bas Wiegers will open the ASPEKTE Salzburg Festival with the Munich Chamber Orchestra on 11 March, featuring the Austrian premiere of Johannes Maria Staud's work Stachel, among other pieces.

The festival will open on 11 March in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. In addition to Johannes Maria Staud's Stachel, the programme includes works by Claude Vivier and Sarah Glojnarić, as well as a world premiere by Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin.

Stachel. Rhapsody for String Orchestra was premiered in 2025 by the Munich Chamber Orchestra under Bas Wiegers and, as a co-commission of the Les Musicales de Quiberon festival under the baton of Pascal Gallois, was taken on tour to France by the MKO in the same year.

Even before the opening concert, Johannes Maria Staud will be a guest on 11 March in a studio discussion with the festival's artistic director Ludwig Nussbichler, composer Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin and cultural journalist Claus Friede.
