Together with Clara Iannotta and Marco Stroppa, Mark Andre also teaches and advises emerging composers taking part in the festival’s Composition Residency.
Mark Andre will then be appearing as Composer-in-Residence at the Lucerne Festival from 22 August, with four major concerts. The residency kicks off with a world premiere: the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (LFCO), conducted by Baldur Brönnimann, will premiere Im Entsiegeln 1 together with soprano Miah Persson.
Next up on 29 August, in a concert featuring the LFCO conducted by Elim Chan, Jörg Widman on the clarinet and the SWR Experimentalstudio, is the Clarinet Concerto über, which was met with great enthusiasm at its world premiere as part of the 2015 Donaueschingen Music Festival and was awarded the Orchestra Prize.
Jörg Widman will also be appearing as a soloist at the concert on 30 August: the 2018 composition … selig sind … for clarinet and electronics is on the programme, alongside iv 18 (‘Sie fürchteten sich nämlich’) for solo double bass, which was superbly performed by Frank Reinecke at its world premiere at the Musikfest Berlin in 2021.
At the closing concert of the residency on 5 September at the Lukaskirche, two special works will receive their Swiss premieres. Organist Stephan Heuberger will perform the work iv 15. Himmelfahrt, which premiered in 2019 (more on this in our magazine), and, together with Frank Reinecke on double bass, iv 19. Pfingsten – Echos.
