From 1981 onwards, Philippe Manoury worked at IRCAM alongside Miller Puckette on a programming language for interactive live electronics, now known as MAX-MSP. The computer scientist and musician Miller Puckette will be appearing at the Chigiana International Festival in Siena on 24 July for the performance of three works by Philippe Manoury, alongside pianist Anton Gerzenberg, soprano Maria Eleonora Caminada and mezzo-soprano Juliana Snapper.
The concert will open with the world premiere of Tell me all, Tell me now for female voice and live electronics, followed by Illud etiam for female voice and live electronics.
Anton Gerzenberg will then present the Italian premiere of a major work for piano and electronics: Daniel Barenboim successfully premiered Das wohlpräparierte Klavier in 2021 at the season opening of the Boulez Saal in Berlin. “One is moved by the tragic power of this composition, surprised by archaic sounds – drops, bells, claves, the howl of the wind, chords hammered out in the distance, a music box – in this blurred, fantastical, alluring disharmony.” (Toute la Culture, Nicolas Chaplain, 7 September 2021)
