The Goddess was a Shapeless Mass is the title of Olga Ravn's production, which – inspired by mythical images, archaeological finds and magical objects – combines classical music with performance, projected text, 3D animation and rituals.
The production was developed especially for the Copenhagen Phil and the conservatory's concert hall and is performed by three actresses, the symphony orchestra, a soprano and cellist and composer Josefine Opsahl. She will premiere her new cello concerto HANDS with the Copenhagen Phil under the baton of Bjarni Frimann Bjarnason.
"In the year 100, a Roman named Tacitus visited a temple of a women's cult. He saw how they worshipped a sacred boulder, a black stone, and wrote: 'The representation of the goddess has no human form. The reasons for this are unclear. The goddess is a formless mass.' After seeing a picture of the black stone, I began to long for it. I dreamed about it at night. About touching its smooth surface."– Olga Ravn.
