Familiar landscapes in an unfamiliar light: on this new album, Bach’s Goldberg Variations are performed not on the harpsichord or piano, but in a completely new setting featuring the saxophone, accordion and cello. For Asya Fateyeva, this marks the fulfilment of a musical dream. For her, the Goldberg Variations form part of a series of innovative projects through which she is expanding the repertoire for her instrument.
The recording, released at the end of May 2026, received an enthusiastic review from Rondo magazine: “There is dancing and singing on the instruments, smiling and even a touch of contemplation. Here, the intimate suddenly transforms into a chamber orchestral experience. (...) And as an outsider, one is simply fortunate enough to witness it all at close quarters.”
Asya Fateyeva has presented the album in interview programmes on both Deutschlandfunk Kultur and NDR Kultur.
