With two opera productions and several concerts a year, Alejo Pérez will shape the musical profile of the Teatro Colón. His appointment as principal conductor in autumn 2025 is now to be followed by his inaugural concert – with works by Beethoven and Berlioz, he will make his bow as principal conductor at the legendary opera house and concert hall in his home city of Buenos Aires.
Alejo Pérez has a long-standing artistic connection to the theatre. As a guest conductor, he has enjoyed great success there, both conducting concerts with the theatre’s two orchestras and as musical director of outstanding new opera productions (including Parsifal, Der Rosenkavalier and Ariadne auf Naxos).
"I feel very connected to the Teatro Colón, and it is an honour for me to take on this task together with the Orquesta Estable and to be part of its rich history," said Alejo Pérez following his appointment. The orchestra’s press release stated the following about the conductor: "His renowned professional integrity and outstanding career consolidate the legacy of the founders of this famous opera house, who dreamed of positioning Buenos Aires among the world's great cultural capitals. That legacy, which remains alive today, is to be a cradle of great talent, attracting excellence, learning from it and projecting itself onto the world stage."
The first opera production with Alejo Pérez at the helm as principal conductor will follow in the summer: from 14 August, Verdi’s Otello will be on the programme in Buenos Aires in a new production directed by Miguel Martínez.
