György Ligeti: The Ligeti Project © 2016 Warner Classics 0825646028580
I decided to flee from Hungary after the bloody suppression of the uprising of 23 October 1956. My first “western” composition, Artikulation (1958), was realised in the Cologne Studio for Electronic Music (the originally quadraphonic work is presented here in a stereo version). This composition, produced purely electronically, resembles an abstract language. Later on, between 1962 and 1965, I realised similar ideas using the human voice (three singers) and seven instruments; the results are the Aventures and Nouvelles Aventures, which appear here as live concert recordings.
