On the 27th May, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta will give the world premiere of the new version of Philippe Manoury’s ensemble work Instants Pluriels under the direction of Chien Wen-pin and Yip Wing-sie, as part of the French May festival. For this performance, the composer has expanded his work, originally written in 2008 for two ensembles and two conductors, for a larger line-up.
Fundamental questions about space and time are keeping Philippe Manoury busy at the moment: his “Köln Trilogy” is a large-scale spatial-triptych that scrutinises the architecture of modern concert halls and orchestral spatial concepts from an aesthetic point of view, turning them into compositional material.
