Disrupting routines

Outrage is not enough: Titus Engel talks to the FAZ about conducting Bartók's only opera and about cultural politics in Corona times.

The "Conductor of the Year 2020" (Opernwelt magazine) will be featureed in two streaming performances of Bluebeard's Castle at the Opéra de Lyon at the end of March 2021. In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, he takes politics to task, while also proposing that more is needed: "Outrage and disenchantment aren’t enough, we also need to be better connected," he says, criticizing the lack of competent contacts at the federal state level, "... with whom perhaps we could take this 'crisis as an opportunity' to think about future structural reforms."
