At the 2025 Musikfest Bremen, Jan Liebermann became the first organist ever to be awarded the "Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk".
The jury’s statement read: “Not yet 20 years old, Jan Liebermann has already demonstrated most impressively what is possible in terms of musical interpretation on the organ – the most technically demanding of all classical instruments. In addition to the fact that he always performs his concerts from memory, he captivates audiences with a virtuosity that, thanks to his spirited yet contemplative and moving playing, results in musically delicate, well-thought-out and technically brilliant interpretations. Jan Liebermann is also very successful on social media, where he is sparking a new interest in organ music among a young audience that previously knew little about the instrument."
In his prize-winner’s concert, Jan Liebermann will perform works by Bach, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Vierne and Liszt on the Walcker organ in Papenburg. The largest organ from the Weimar Republic still in existence in Germany originally came from Gelsenkirchen: following the refurbishment of the Hans-Sachs-Haus there, the organ, dating from 1927, was handed over to the parish of St Antonius, where, since 2020, it hangs suspended from the vault by steel cables, floating above the congregation.
