Beethoven's “Eroica” will be preceded by Harald Sæverud's Ballad of Revolt (Kjempeviseslåtten). Written during the Second World War, it is considered a musical symbol of Norwegian resistance to the German occupation, dedicated to the “great and small fighters of the home front.” This is followed by Joan Tower's Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, a collegial response to Aaron Copland and his Fanfare for the Common Man who had to endure the trials of war. It is dedicated to women who fight for their rights against all odds.
Holly Hyun Choe follows Petr Popelka as Principal Conductor and Musical Advisor with her inaugural concert. She will initially serve in this position for three years. Founded in 1946, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (Norwegian: Kringkastingsorkestret, KORK for short) is part of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), based in Oslo, and performs both live and on media throughout the country.
