Performing his concerts entirely from memory is one expression of the artistic authority with which Jan Liebermann approaches his instrument. The young organist combines technical brilliance with remarkable musical maturity: his interpretations are as thoughtful as they are compelling. At the same time, he has a gift for bringing the organ to audiences beyond the concert hall. With a strong presence on social media, he sparks the curiosity of a younger generation and opens up new spaces for his instrument.
Jan Liebermann studied in Mainz and Frankfurt am Main and was also a member of the piano masterclass of Prof. Dr. Lev Natochenny. He is currently studying with Prof. Martin Sander in Munich. Numerous first prizes at international competitions – most recently at the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition 2024 – as well as the Deutschlandfunk Förderpreis 2025 underline his exceptional standing. The award for highly gifted young artists will be presented on 2 September in Bremen.
His concert activities have already taken him to major concert halls and cathedrals across Europe. In 2025, he appeared several times at the Berlin Philharmonie: with his solo debut marking the 60th anniversary of the Schuke organ, in a chamber concert with Emmanuel Pahud, and in concerts with the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Andris Nelsons.
He has attracted particular attention with the performance from memory of the complete trio sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach as well as Marcel Dupré’s Trois Préludes et Fugues.
