Together with his son Julian Prégardien and their long-time companion Michael Gees on the piano, Christoph Prégardien celebrated his birthday on stage at the Dortmund Concert Hall. Father and son presented a programme centred around works by Franz Schubert, featuring their personal favourite songs and duets.
In his insightful analysis of Christoph Prégardien's song interpretations for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Jürgen Kesting concludes: "He tells stories with his voice instead of squeezing out emotions. He articulates finely without lecturing. Tenor Christoph Prégardien is in a league of his own thanks to his mastership." BR Klassik and hr2 radio also paid tribute to the tenor in their programmes.
We too would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Christoph Prégardien and look forward to continuing to accompany him on his multifaceted career! The tenor has been and continues to be in demand for a wide variety of concerts this season, most recently with Die schöne Müllerin/These Fevered Days by Johannes Maria Staud – an outstanding project that combines Schubert's cycle in a newly orchestrated version with seven new songs based on texts by Emily Dickinson. As a conductor, he has just been on tour with Bach's Christmas Oratorio together with the Il Gardellino orchestra and the chamber choir of the Palau de la Musica Catalana, and at the beginning of February he toured with his son and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra with concerts in Cologne, Freiburg and Berlin.
