Although the world premiere of Sancta Susanna was actually supposed to take place at the Stuttgart Opera House, Paul Hindemith's one-act opera is only performed there over 100 years later - the play about female desire in an environment hostile to lust and the body seemed too scandalous to those responsible at the time.
