Kein Licht is a music theatre project devised by the stage director Nicolas Stemann and composer Philippe Manoury based on Elfriede Jelinek’s text of the same name. The premiere of this work, which has been commissioned by the Parisian Opéra Comique, will take place in August 2017 at the Ruhrtriennale.
With their mutual aim to develop a hybrid of music and spoken theatre, Philippe Manoury and Nicolas Stemann have found in each other the ideal partner. Elfriede Jelinek’s Kein Licht, created in response to the nuclear catastrophe in Fukushima, provides the subject matter for the artists’ dramaturgical work. What will come after Fukushima, after the inconceivable and unspeakable has happened? The music theatre project is emerging from an openly creative process in close collaboration with the soloists (actors and singers), IRCAM, musicians of the Lucilin ensemble and the conductor Julien Leroy.
