Concept and script: DIETRICH HENSCHEL
Stage direction: RAHEL THIEL
Duration: approx.1h30min (plus interval)
For soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone and two pianists
Johannes Brahms’ antiquated Liebeslieder Waltzes are placed in a contemporary context, but without taking away their charm and emotional depth. During this evening-long revue Brahms’ music is paired with Songs of Exile by Hanns Eisler as well as songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Kurt Weill and Ligeti.
Theatrical dance performance
F. SCHUBERT: "Die schöne Müllerin", adaptation for accordion and vocals, with additional music for accordion and percussion
Choreography: ZAIDA BALLESTEROS (the young woman)
Dancers: JAMILA KHODR (the stream), TBC (the young man)
Baritone: DIETRICH HENSCHEL (the old man)
Accordion: PHILIPPE THURIOT
Percussion: PHILIPP LAMPRECHT
In this theatrical performance the story is told objectively through dance, with the choreography depicting what happens between the protagonists (the young man and woman, as well as the personification of the stream), all accompanied by sung narration, told from the distant perspective of the grown man. The choreography, on the other hand, is told from the perspective of the young woman, the “lovely maid of the mill” of the work’s title.
