World premiere of Brigitta Muntendorf's Melencolia in Bregenz

On August 18, Ensemble Modern will premiere Brigitta Muntendorf's opera Melencolia at the Bregenz Festival.

In two performances on August 18 and 20, the new music theater work, which playfully yet strictly explores stereotypes from the Renaissance, Romanticism, pop, and kitsch in search of the liberating melancholic mood, will be performed on stage. The 14 instrumental soloists of the Ensemble Modern are joined by virtual guests such as the Iranian Ney-anbān virtuoso Saeid Shanbehzadeh and their own digital twins.
