Samir Odeh-Tamimi's composition Tachypnoe will be premiered on 3 June by the Kammerakademie Potsdam under Antonello Manacorda.
Embedded in a programme with Schönberg's Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 "Emperor" (soloist: Pierre-Laurent Aimard) and Beethoven's Eroica, the work will be premiered in the Nikolaisaal.
Samir Odeh-Tamimi says about his composition: "Tachýpnoea (Ancient Greek ταχύπνοια tachýpnoia, English 'rapid breathing'), refers to an increased or excessive breathing rate (i.e. breaths per minute). When composing, I was completely free to decide how fast or slow the breathing rate could be. At some points I composed a kind of panic breathing through the whole orchestra, like hyperventilation, but I quickly dissolved it. The idea runs through the whole piece, even if the musicality of the work quickly makes you forget this in many places."
