Richard Strauss' opera premiered in 1911 - after Elektra the second collaboration of the congenial author duo Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss. The state theatre in Wiesbaden is presenting a production directed by Nicolas Brieger, who brings to the stage "a society that no longer has any ground beneath its feet: not in music, not in dance and not in the social itself," according to the Wiesbadener Kurier.
