At the age of 75, conductor Marc Soustrot has now announced his retirement from the stage. He has just released his last CD with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra featuring orchestral works by Maurice Ravel.
It is a repertoire with which he will certainly be fondly remembered by many concertgoers: Works by Maurice Ravel, including Le Tombeau de Couperin, the Valses nobles et sentimentales and the Rapsodie espagnole, are presented by Marc Soustrot with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra on the recording released in May on the Danacord label.
His conscious decision to lead a quieter life and spend more time with his family may come as a surprise to many: Highly esteemed and successful most recently especially in Scandinavia as long-standing chief conductor of the Malmö and Aarhus symphony orchestras and in Spain as chief conductor and artistic director of the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla (ROSS), Marc Soustrot is saying goodbye as a conductor at the height of his musical experience and abilities. He has also previously held positions as chief conductor with the Orchestre Philharmonique des Pays de la Loire, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and the Brabants Orkest Eindhoven.
We would like to thank Marc Soustrot for the many years of trustful collaboration, and we fondly remember the outstanding concerts we were able to experience with him, as well as the great successes of his opera productions in Stuttgart and Frankfurt, among others - his acclaimed debut at the Semperoper Dresden with Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande in 2015 will also remain unforgettable.
We leave the last word to Marc Soustrot, who addressed the members of the ROSS in a letter: "I will never forget the great moments of musical happiness that we experienced together thanks to our artistic collaboration."
