Happy New Ears, Mark Andre!
The awarding of the Happy New Ears prize of the Hans und Gertrud Zender Stiftung to Mark Andre will be celebrated with two concerts: on 6 July, the Arditti Quartet gives the world premiere of Miniaturen, and on the following day the orchestral work woher… wohin will be premiered by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Matthias Pintscher.
Both concerts in the Munich Herkulessaal are part of the musica viva weekend, which this year presents seven composers from three different generations. The “Happy New Ears” prize is awarded every two years from the Hans und Gertrud Zender-Stiftung in collaboration with the Bayerischen Akademie der Künste, musica viva and BR Klassik, and will be awarded to Mark Andre before the premiere of woher… wohin. Named after John Cage’s famous provocation to listen without prejudice, the initiative honours composers and publicists who contribute to the development of listener’s “New Ears”.
